This year’s Celebration Ride will be held on Sunday, July 17th. There are two ride options—62 mile and 30 mile. Both rides begin in Boca Raton and continue north along scenic A1A, with the 62 mile route going up to West Palm Beach and the 30 mile route heading up to Boynton Beach. The 62 mile ride begins at 7:00 a.m.; the 30 mile ride starts at 8:00 a.m. They both start and finish at Boca Raton City Hall located at 201 West Palmetto Park Road, Boca Raton, Florida 33432. There’s still time to register at the official event website.
The Frank Stark Celebration Ride is a Boca Raton Bicycle Club event. All proceeds go to benefit various local, state, and national bicycle advocacy charities. The Celebration Ride commemorates the life of Frank Stark, an airline pilot who was forced to retire after suffering two heart attacks and undergoing quadruple-bypass surgery. To celebrate his recovery, he began a birthday tradition of riding one mile for every year of his life. His friends at the Boca Raton Bicycle Club joined him, and his simple birthday tradition eventually became the eponymous bicycle charity event. He died in 1999, but his friends and the cycling community continue his annual celebratory birthday tradition.
